YOUTH SUCCESS STORIES

Celebrating Youth and Young Adults!
Celena

Celena is pictured here (far right) with Assemblyman Bill Quirk and her Case Manager, Davida Scott, for being selected as a Dwight Brydie Scholarship recipient! There are only three recipients selected for the scholarship in the state every year.

Celena qualified for WIOA as a youth in foster care and received help and encouragement  from Davida in preparing for the workforce. Celena was also interested in college, so her Case Manager helped her apply to Cal State East Bay and the Renaissance Scholars Program. Celena is currently pursuing a degree in Nursing at Cal State East Bay.

Congratulations Celena!

Hugo

Hugo is also a recipient of the 2018 Dwight Brydie Scholarship! As a WIOA Youth participant at the Youth Enrichment Services program at the Hayward Adult school, Hugo has gained support from the program staff. Hugo was placed as an intern with the City of Hayward’s Maintenance Department.

Congratulations Hugo!

Melissa

Melissa, a WIOA Youth participant at Berkeley Youth Alternatives (BYA), was honored as a Rising Start at the 5th Annual Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency for her accomplishments!

Through her participation at BYA, Melissa was hired by Spark Health as an intern and was quickly promoted to a Facilitator. Melissa is UC Berkeley-bound and has made positive impact in her community as a mentor to middle school girls.

Congratulations Melissa!
